Chapter 1
Okay, let’s get down to business. I’m April. April Stone. My
best friends are Clove Nyssa and Hannah May. My Little sister is Mia. She’s 9.
And a tattletale. And a Lair. And disgusting. I’m 13. Clove’s 13 and Hannah’s
12. Mia and I share a room. Eww. Every single morning, as soon as her breathing
speeds up, signally she’s close to annoying me for another 12 hours minimum, I
dart off to my creek.
It’s a lovely little place, deep in the forest, teeming with
Wildlife. A thick Willow Branch hangs right out over the water, Perfect for
resting. The water beneath is Quiet and Flowing. You could sit there
undisturbed for hours. Listen to the Crickets sing, and the Birds chirp.
Sometimes, in spring, I see a stray deer with her newborn fawn. The quiet,
rushing sound of the creek always calms me, no matter how agitated I am.
Looking down, I see Flaming Red wavy hair, and ice-blue eyes
with a hint of gold. A sly smile and many freckled added to the mix. Two piercings,
One Pair a Gold Star, the other Blue Sapphire. That’s me. Still looking down, I
see a brown-haired girl join me.
“Clove.”
“April.” A high-pitched voice replies. Clove scrambles up the tree, similar to a squirrel. That’s her talent. Us three are… Strange. Hannah, Clove and I all have different, abnormal talents that no human can perform. But we are human! Or, at least, part human. Hannah can speak many languages without learning them, and talk backwards. Suitable, considering her name. I always win races at school. I’m ultra-fast, And proud to be!

Hannah joins us. Her straight honey-blonde hair reflects the
sun, and her green eyes are expressionless. Hannah can seem distant, when you first
see her. She climbs up the tree, not as fast as Clove, but still pretty fast.
We can all climb pretty well, but nowhere as well as Clove. Clove’s amber eyes
stare down at me, like a cat. Oh, that’s another thing.
We’re Half-Cat.
